NAME
Marketing Office The Crown
LOCATION
Beliaghata, Kolkata, India
AREA
2145 sq. ft
PROJECT DURATION
2019-2020
TEAM
Animesh Nayak, Gaurav Banerjee, Biranchi Panda
DESIGN CONCEPT
The building plays upon the deliberate contrast between outside and inside insisted upon by the brief by creating an intimate and refreshing green courtyard enclosed within a forbidding, grey masonry facade. All indoor spaces to conduct business enjoy the light, air and views from this central garden while being cut off from the chaotic construction site by the exterior walls.
MATERIAL PALETTE
  • Grey painted reused brickwork with horizontal projected cement plastered ledges accentuating horizontal directionality and movement
  • Basalt Gray painted aluminium zinc corrugated roofing directing storm runoff towards the courtyard
  • Pathways of handmade, broom-finished concrete in chevron pattern
  • Duco painted, slender metal frames with large glass panel windows to bring in ample natural light
  • Wood paneling with teak battens laid in a vertical format to emphasize height
  • Tropical plants including Aglonoema, Philodendron and Calathea Lutea lends a lush feel
